Solving The African IQ Conundrum : "Winning Personality" Masks Low Scores
what the hell is wrong with IQ-fixated fools?
But can that African 70 average IQ be real? It is indeed extremely low, the lowest found in any comparable area. This has caused many to dismiss the finding.I know that the figure is not a fluke, however, because for the last six years I have collected African IQ data on hundreds of students at the prestigious University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. The average IQ for these African students turns out to be 84. Assuming they score 15 points above the general average, as university students of any group typically do, then an average African IQ of 70 is implied—exactly what the direct measurements show.
here’s some IQ for ya, jackass: when you start out by stating that you’re working with a group that’s “extremely” anything, you need to be skeptical of transferring assumptions for that group (“Assuming they score 15 points above the general average, as university students of any group typically do…”) from those that you’ve just identified as being extremely different. in any case, spreads taken from higher ranges need to be compressed when closer to a presumptive floor. why wasn’t an actual spread collected in this case?
as a kid i argued that blacks were inherently stupider than whites. that was based on my direct experience mixed with frustration. my opinion changed when i got older, met more people, and considered environment. after associating with many people flavors, from many countries, i can’t pin down any trends that aren’t so mixed in with environment as to make the question of innate intellectual superiority unanswerable. the tendency to claim whatever one is as superior is disturbing, whether concerning race, geography, or anything other than direct superiority (whatever the hell that might be) — not that the article does that.
a standout trait that i have noticed from some smaller countries — especially a few in africa, is the pomp and idiocy that comes with official “education” (NB: “the prestigious University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa”). it makes the proud strutters worse than if they had no “degree”, a line that’s not crossed as often here, even with the destructive focus on “credentials”. we may get there eventually. there are trends in opposing directions on that score, and it’s hard to tell which will prevail.
the ultimate question re this shtick: who cares? there’s something suspiciously unintelligent and inartistic about most folks who cater to official, quantitative measurements of people.
