How to Smash the State

it’s a slow plan, but fred woodworth had some ideas that got published in 1971. of course, he might be dead now, and the state is still cranking away — though closer than ever to a potentially self-destroying stumble.

    Hi Charley:

That essay was a great find! I find it hard to believe it was written in 1971.

Last I heard, Woodworth is still alive and publishing THE MATCH.

He’s still as eccentric as ever; The guy refuses to use a computer and publishes his mag on an old fashioned printing press (solar-powered no less)…

Most contemporary anarchist writings are so filled with pretentious jargon I find them almost unreadable.

However, Woodworth really takes to heart Orwell’s dictum that political speech should be as clear as a pane of glass.

    Good stuff.

thanks, cletus! i forwarded your comment to the finder.

man, you nailed it on pretentious jargon. i just tune out when i hear people getting all nuanced about political beliefs that almost all amount to collectivist poohbah. then there’s the nirvana school which assumes a blank sheet on which the anarchist architect lays out to the nth degree “how society would work”, like there’s going to be a vote to switch over to anarchism. ridiculous. woodworth had it right that you can only do things to head toward freedom (with war for any cause not being one of them).

nobody knows how society would work when more free, and there’s surely no blank sheet. as i’ve written before, i doubt large-scale anarchy will ever happen; too many sheep genes in the common man’s blueprint, and quite enough aberrant “leaders” to command the eager slaves.
