microsoft flight simulator
no, i’m not going to try to convince anybody reading this that microsoft’s flight simulator is one of the greatest things ever to be invented (though i believe that). just wanted to share a funny screenshot where i tried to duplicate the video capture of my landing at runway 18 at freeway airport, just outside the DC beltway in MD. by the way, “18″ is “one eight” in pilot talk, and if you add a zero to the “18″, you get the actual runway heading in degrees — rounded to the nearest 10, of course. so the plane is heading south, give or take a thing or two.
don’t have the time or inclination to tweak it exactly, but it could be damned close if you wanted to work at it. one of the best things about MSFS is that is has tons of actual small airports, with surprisingly realistic layouts (and sometimes the runway/airport lights at night in the program look almost like a real video). if i tweaked angle, location, colors, camera settings, etc., and added some parked planes, it would be very close. this screenshot is of the same model plane (cessna 172) positioned within 50′ or so in the flight sim as the same location at the real freeway airport in the video capture. (huh?)
man, do i love MSFS. i really should try to convince everybody that they must run out and buy it immediately. tomorrow is another day!
