Airport Security Hasn’t Improved

ho hum:

Security at U.S. airports is no better under federal control than it was before the Sept. 11 attacks, a key House member says two government reports will conclude. The Government Accountability Office – the investigative arm of Congress – and the Homeland Security Department’s inspector general are expected to soon release their findings on the performance of Transportation Security Administration screeners.

“A lot of people will be shocked at the billions of dollars we’ve spent and the results they’re going to see, which confirm previous examinations of the Soviet-style screening system we’ve put in place,” Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., told The Associated Press on Friday.

extra credit for the obvious (to few) but critically accurate reference to what is really happening to the US. soviet-style, motherfucker.

speaking of moron “security” procedures, i was stopped yesterday when entering a courthouse. the x-ray dude saw that i had a lock in my briefcase. i’d put it there in a rush last fall and forgotten about it. the guy asked me in a serious tone, “why do you have a lock?”

i’m like, “what the fuck do you care?” (what i said was, “i didn’t know it was there. why?”)

he wanted me to dig it out and show it to him. that took me a minute (staring at the x-ray for reference), because i had no idea where it was. when produced, he looked at it for a split second and then waved me through. what is the point of such behavior? the lines at 08:00 extend into the street to allow for this nonsense.

meanwhile, the same courthouse has established in my many experiences with them a disastrous predictability that could be circumvented without too much trouble. it’s almost sad the ease with which the “security” screeners are manipulated. i won’t say anything more, because if they want to know, they can fucking pay me for it, slacker assholes. tired of handing dumbshits the obvious. bottom line: anybody who wants to get a gun into the montgomery county maryland circuit court can do so with little risk. with the right conditions, it’s possible to do so with no risk.

during my years of daily searches by sloths at beretta USA, i would often list the ways (while stuck in line watching them “work”) they were screwing the pooch. i eventually offered my services to management, proposing that i steal a pistol and then show them how i’d done it (they laughed that off, i’m sorry to say; would have been a great adventure). it gets to the point where the efforts at security serve only to mask and enable its circumvention. aside from aviation, a classic situation is these dumbfuck courthouses, where by some mental schism people think they are safer by ensuring that nobody but “professionals” have guns. last week i rode the elevator at the courthouse while standing behind a cop. he was carrying a glock in a ratty leather holster with only a snap restraint. as i walked by him on exiting, i quipped, “i guess you guys are going to be getting new holsters after the recent courthouse news.”

he replied with confidence, “no, we’re okay.”

clueless fuck. if i were one of the people they claim to be so worried about, i could have shot his ass right there, rifled his spare ammo, then taken the stairs to any courthouse in the building before anybody knew what was going on. he’d put his back to me with his arm not blocking the pistol in any way. what is the point of all this security bullshit if the ultimate security is based on trust? what is the difference between giving me access to a pistol and letting me carry my own, as should be the case? what benefit is there of making the touted potential victims utterly helpless when somebody decides to further upset the imbalance?

oh, the benefit is there in screaming capital letters. however, it is not for you or me. not hard to figure out, but so rarely do people figure. free people should not tolerate such stupidity by force.
