Mailinator: be…anyone.

it’s been around for years. mailinator.com. first noticed it when it was an email address for a BugMeNot registration. as cool as it is though, i never used it until now (probably remembered it because bill st. clair wrote about it last month).

whenever you need a non-private throwaway address, you just supply any email-legal word followed by “@mailinator.com”. doesn’t matter if somebody else has used the same one, though reading mail can be cluttered if you use a common one as i just did.

What is Mailinator(tm)?
Mailinator is a new kind of mail service. The biggest difference is that you don’t need to sign up. Any email name you can think of already exists at mailinator.com. Want goofy@mailinator.com? You got it. Want to be superguy? Happyjoe? fredinpants? No problem. They all already exist just waiting for you to check your mail.

supply it to a fiend, go to mailinator.com, and enter the word you chose. there’s your mail! (and maybe everybody else’s too.)

down side is that they only keep the mail for a few hours, supposedly. i guess it’s mainly a black hole address. still very nice. of course, you can’t send email from there; only receive.

check out sneakemail.com if you need to keep an address around for a longer period of time. I make a new sneakemail address for every single merchant online that I buy for and it allows me to get that one or two important tracking emails that I want and then it allows me to shut off the CAN SPAM shit that always follows after you have had “legit business” with a company.

The free service is so good, it’s all you need for text messages, but you will get change for your twenty if you want the premium service. Privacy is seldom cheap, this is a bargain.

And I’m only a happy customer.
