market balance is unstoppable
as the 7 readers of this blog know (up from 5, proud to announce), i’ve been a strong supporter of MS and its internet explorer, puzzled by the rabidity of some netscape and firefox fans.
after finally checking out firefox last month, i decided to use it for blogger.com (my blog’s front end), but that’s all, since it’s at least twice as fast as IE at blogger.com. i didn’t add it to my surf corral because of security or other hype; logic and human nature ensured that firefox would become a bigger target as it caught on and was scrutinized more seriously. so i’m not surprised by this announcement, but i hope it slows down some of the MS bashers who’ve used more venom than sense.
despite its brush with reality, mozilla still links to this hype.
i hope all firefox nazis will shove this quote from mozilla with deserved gusto:
Mozilla is aggressively working to provide a more comprehensive solution to these potential vulnerabilities and will provide that solution in a forthcoming security update. Users can further protect themselves today by temporarily disabling JavaScript.
oh? imagine that! sounds like microsoft talking.
no thanks; i’ll use firefox for blogger.com only, and stick with the battle-hardened IE for everything else. funny how knowledge of economics brings stability and comfort (well, except for the USG-thugs-knocking-on-your-door part).
all hail firefox and microsoft (and the rest of ‘em).

The only extent to which IE is “battle-hardened” is the extent to which a tech-savvy, small minority of its users have had to learn how to harden it in self-defense, because its owners sure didn’t ship it that way. Let’s just hope Microsoft learns its lessons with IE7; but I’m not holding my breath until then. As to Firefox, “Browsers have no business launching arbitrary executable programs. Period.” Mark Odell

yep. that’s exactly the battle-hardened i was referring to — the kind firefox is going to build soon.
