ugh
checking the LRC blog today, i just got blasted with a V for Vendetta spoiler. what the fuck, man? with all the people who don’t have the courtesy to announce spoilers, i may as well not bother with the film now. people have no respect for the beauty of clean slate film viewing. goddamned thing was just released two days ago.
then before that it was a high recommendation for some kid thwacking bullshit guitar hype, via a gary north link where he merely demonstrates his artless ignorance of music, and some startling illogic (e.g., if you misspell a word in a vid title, you “cannot spell”). check this gem:
I am not big on rock, but I am big on technique and creativity. This is one of the most musically creative things I have ever seen/heard.
bwahahahaha! man, do i hate gary north. goddamned fossil. he’s big on “technique” and “creativity”? how about being big on music and art? this kid’s technique sucks. he’s fucking up all over, and just gives up completely a couple of times. he uses some of the cheapest flash guitar gimmicks (e.g., rapid pull-offs to fake/extend rapidly picked arpeggios). much of the time he clear picks something rapidly it’s a flat out piece of shit, especially near the end. hey, i know the score — i used to do the same thing. when in doubt, flutter-pick it out and move your left hand as fast as you can. the morons will buy it. QED. not the kid’s fault.
don’t ever let gary north see eddie van halen from the early ’80s, because he’ll have a heart attack. come to think of it, don’t show him a cotton gin either. better safe.
“creativity”? okay, gary, please tell us one. single. fucking. thing the kid did that wasn’t done 20 years ago when yngwie malmsteen polluted the earth with a far superior version of this sludge. what is “creative” about it? nothing. it’s a poorly done yngwie malmsteen ripoff. the arrangement and accompaniment blow. the drum machine is vintage 1987 shitbox. the difference in the guitar playing is that yngwie malmsteen had technique out the ass. maybe nobody worth a damn wanted to hear it after 5 minutes, but it was impressive nonetheless. monumental technique.
what is this poorly executed ripoff to gary north? “one of the most musically creative things I have ever seen/heard.”
only gary north and a few others would lew rockwell feel pressured to parrot on the LRC blog with this drivel.
i saw that guitar kid vid last week, and booted it in disgust halfway through (not because of him, but because of the idiotic ratings and comments). just to make sure i hadn’t missed something, i watched the whole thing today. it gets worse! funny to see the people who get fooled by that smoke and mirrors shit. the kid’s sloppy as hell when not comping, and plays leads like a soulless robot in need of alignment.
nothing against the kid, because it’s not his fault the vid is popular, nor did he expect it to be so. he probably could tighten up if he had to. but the playing is not musical. attracted first to speed, he’s gone bassackwards in his essential learning, as many do. some even recover. and had it not been for this miraculous internet that north touts as a 100% positive, maybe he would have gotten out of it soon. it’s not unlikely now that he’ll be “discovered”, then trapped into mimicking his bad mimicry for the next 3 years until his handlers admit that there’s no market for shitty malmsteen impersonations unless you’re 7 or something. via the interent, he could end up becoming a more proficient version of william hung. this discovery and publicity may be the worst thing that could have hit his music growth. that should be considered by any austrian economist, but to gary it’s the demonstrative hook to extoll the internet. it’s all blessing.
if looking for an internet publicity gem, this is a far better example.
this shit pisses me off. it’s often the same flowery crap at LRC and mises.org, used to disguise the edges of incompetence. this guitar kid is not the story gary north sells it as through lew rockwell, and a few days ago it was the uber-dumbass jeff tucker trying to fool people into thinking he knows fuckall about real music. jeff tucker knows what he’s told. and he sure doesn’t get the beatles, which almost tells you everything you need to know on that swooning monkey.
