tragic, tragic news
coolest female i’ve run into in years, and — this is complete bullshit — she’s moving to the west coast next week.
just heard tonight. this woman is the best. she gets along great with every guy in the club. kickass cyclist. so easygoing and friendly. gone — just when i got good at not driving my car over my bike after talking to her.
been riding in racing teams since the early 90s, and never seen anything like her. you’d have to understand it a bit to get how rare a thing it is for a woman to ride competitively with the guys and be cute, nice, and completely without attitude. didn’t talk to her for the first 15 miles tonight, or even see her half the time, but it was a pleasure just knowing she’s riding with us. this sucks. so hard to find cool girls who can hang out with groups of guys without adding a bunch of ninny drivel. found out at dinner after the ride that she doesn’t even live near the ride. she’s been driving 40 minutes each way just to favor us with her sublime femininity (though she appears to not know what she does for us). one guy blurted out at dinner, perhaps involuntarily, that there will be a lot of broken hearts left behind when she goes. i don’t think she understands.
cycling goddess, this goes out to you, via my pals at Twin Peaks, via some old dude who spun a rhyme here and there:
Oh, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear,
Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear.
::sigh::
back to the usual testosterone haze. barnacles!
