LOL

NYT, via LRC:

Twenty-four minutes after he began speaking in a small restaurant the other day, Fred Thompson brought his remarks to a close with a nod of his head and an expression of thanks to Iowans for allowing him to “give my thoughts about some things.”

Then he stood face to a face with a silent audience.

“Can I have a round of applause?” Mr. Thompson said, drawing a rustle of clapping and some laughter.

“Well, I had to drag that out of you,” he said.

ouch. there’s a gut punch from the press. wonder if it was really that bad. in any case, it’s fun watching the great bullshit hope disintegrate. oh, but he was gonna pull that ripcord, wasn’t he? was gonna light up the sky.

You need to read the NYT article on Bush vetoing the child care bill.

The rhetoric is as low and despicable as ever. This bill seems aimed at putting a currently self-reliant demographic on the government leash… they may not need the gov now, but once they get used to their free child healthcare, they sure as hell will!

since george bush is a rank socialist, just wait until they get started on ron paul, should they ever feel it’s necessary. he’ll be the most heartlessest of the heartless.

that’s something that’s freaked me out lately, this reversal of accusation (more accurately, projection). really hit me last night listening to ayn rand’s The Virtue of Selfishness, where she and nathaniel branden expose so efficiently how hateful and arbitrary are the “sacrifice yourself and others” crowd. i don’t agree with some of rand’s claims (as usual when she attempts to dictate as objective those decisions which are subjective and none of her business), but could there be a more heartless, arrogant position than announcing that others must follow your moronic (genius!) social engineering dictates or be violently abused? country of stupid, projecting motherfuckers.

there is only one caring, defensible, virtuous political philosophy, and that is the philosophy of liberty. sadly, most people won’t understand.
