and the BS just keeps on comin’

thomas woods:

Tom, the whole “pro-Confederate” thing is just laughable. They obviously know we’re not “pro-Confederate” in any sense — what is there to support in a government that (like the U.S. government at the time) condoned slavery, imposed a fiat currency, and engaged in military conscription? [...]

it’s an easily misunderstood subject where when comparing the evil USA with the evil CSA one must inevitably conclude, at least, that the CSA were less evil, and not deserving of armed attack by US beasts on grounds of the supposed crime of leaving “the union”. of course, discussing group immorality’s always at least a minor cluster fuck.

still, claiming that LRCers are “not ‘pro-Confederate’ in any sense” is an outright lie. look within the same 24-hr period on the LRC blog, when thomas dilorenzo posted to let people know,

Regarding John Zmirak’s reference to Pope Pius IX and the principles of freedom, it’s interesting to note that Pius IX corresponded with Jefferson Davis during the War for Southern Independence, wishing him (and all Americans) a return to peace. Davis wrote back and, after the war when Davis was held in prison (but never charged with Treason),Pope Pius IX sent him a handmade crown of thorns.

c’mon. in 2003 i was at an LRC sponsored event in richmond — “Lincoln Reconsidered” — at which a video paean to the confederacy was played to rousing applause. and in the rightful exposure of ape lincoln’s treachery, some praise for the confederacy — even if only implied — is inevitable.

as usual, the key is to look to oneself. what would you do? it’s a scary subject, because it wraps right back around to today.

that is why LRC is often correctly pro-CSA, and it’s simply one more symptom of their dishonorable dancing that they can’t address the issue honestly. unconditionally “pro-Confederate”? no, LRC cannot be justly accused so. however, no more accurately can they claim to be “not ‘pro-Confederate’ in any sense”. alone, their archive praising general robert lee puts the lie to that. then you can look to rothbard and his pick for the two american just wars. again, thomas woods:

Tom, the whole “pro-Confederate” thing is just laughable. They obviously know we’re not “pro-Confederate” in any sense — [...]

now rothbard:

Perhaps, some day, their statues, like Lenin’s in Russia, will be toppled and melted down; their insignias and battle flags will be desecrated, their war songs tossed into the fire. And then Davis and Lee and Jackson and Forrest, and all the heroes of the South, “Dixie” and the Stars and Bars, will once again be truly honored and remembered. The classic comment on that meretricious TV series The Civil War was made by that marvelous and feisty Southern writer Florence King. Asked her views on the series, she replied: “I didn’t have time to watch The Civil War. I’m too busy getting ready for the next one.” In that spirit, I am sure that one day, aided and abetted by Northerners like myself in the glorious “copperhead” tradition, the South shall rise again.

if i have to pick between the USA and the CSA, it’s no contest. the CSA failed internally and morally before they failed militarily, but considering that their sins were far less than those of the USA, you’d have to be nuts to not be pro-CSA when comparing the two — almost as nuts as being pro-CSA and pretending you aren’t. in defending against US aggression, the CSA were right. discussing the multiple egregious failures before and after won’t change that truth.

strange thing is that the LRC deniers are setting themselves up to get whacked huge — much more convincingly than with the ron paul newsletter trick. if somebody wants to take the time to expose completely the “we’re not ‘pro-Confederate’ in any sense” joke, search engines are waiting. i don’t need to, because most of the people reading this site seriously have already read enough at LRC to know that woods’s claim, and any similar posturing, is ludicrous. face it, boys; there’s a lot to like about the confederacy if one’s in the state game. and how many are more in the state game than the horse race jockeys and radio cheerers at LRC?
