good sweet nostalgia

iTunes has this very short movie (16 min) for free right now (iTunes link). Cutlass is written and directed by kate hudson, starring my longtime honey virginia madsen (you may remember from the opening to david lynch’s Dune), dakota fanning (emerging from her somewhat achingly/overly cute kid period), kristen stewart (looks good blond), and the writer/director’s stepdad kurt russell.

if you, like i, are fascinated by market negotiation, this is the short film for you. some have called it painfully sweet, but i dig on the whole memories deal. lordy lordy, how could i not when my first real guitar purchase was a 25th anniversary fender stratocaster, aided by my parents (short loan) when i’d only been playing guitar for about 6 months (1981). you make the case and you stick to it. as dakota fanning’s character implies, the drive for material things is often little removed from the drive for life.

tools, baby.
