deadly job hype
some asshole plugging a book has launched another episode of one of the more disgraceful tactics in MSM and general delusion: the "deadly job" hysterics ploy — the target, naturally, coal mining.as i wrote years ago, following others who've written on this subject, the most common lie in american occupation folklore is "sacrificial cop", that lofty fuck drawn to goonery not because he's a sick bastard with insecurity/domination issues, but because he's a micro-step away from saint, drawn to walk into thug HQ and fill out an application to dominate others; nobody else was selfless enough to take on such dangerous work, where life is threatened beyond measure following each roll call!
yet cops are normally absent from top-10 lists for most fatal occupations (per capita), since — check how this works — being a cop isn't nearly the most fatally dangerous job in america. anyone selling that sacrificial hero cop drivel should get real numbers drilled into face.
onward to the mines!
Underground coal miners work in the darkness, invisible to most of us, and when they die -- also in the darkness, from methane explosions or rock falls or any of the hundreds of other hazards they face every day -- their deaths usually merit just a few paragraphs in the local newspaper.reading jeff goodell's melodramatic crap, serving only as the hook into his "global warming" shtick, would you ever guess that the incidence of fatalities in BLS's mining category is usually exceeded by loggers, fishermen, and pilots (and one or two other occupations)?
i looked seriously into being a pro pilot, and would probably have done so if my eyes weren't so geekily fuzzy, turning every mandatory physical into a crap shoot. guess what level of "must serve humanity with my potential sacrifice" was in play there. zero. i wanted that job because i thought it was the coolest around — same as most cops, but without the "follow my orders or go to jail" dipshit psycho angle. yet not one person i talked to about flying lauded me for wanting to serve humanity, putting my life on the line "every day".
screw it. i'm tired of writing about this topic, because apart from the statistical denial, it's centered on the sacrifice/altruism core that's destroyed with an objective analysis of human action. deadly jobs aren't a secret, impossible to research. job safety is between two parties, at most — the employer and employee. the nanny state should go fuck itself, along with writers of breathless bullshit selling a destructive dogma in the name of care.
fuck whiny miners. fuck whiny MSM dickheads trying to sell books. fuck all cops, whiny or not.

Merit just a few paragraphs?
Maybe if they die instantly. But in these situations where they "might" be alive, trapped, for weeks on end, it's all the worthless MSM can handle.
