joy of shuffle
until transferring my CD collection to hard drive, i never appreciated the enhancement pseudo-randomizing brings to music listening. now with 5,000 songs on my iPod and laptop, it's like my own radio station programming — surprised enough to keep things fun, but it's pulling from stuff i'm almost guaranteed to like. i'm a freak for christmas music, and have always enjoyed hearing it all year. shuffle ensures one pops up now and then, and i dig that. just heard another great one from nat cole. shuffle never grows old.i guess it's somewhat flawed retreating to my collection, but i'm letting iTunes keep me stocked with free new music now and then. rarely listen to the radio anymore, which... i wonder if there's an established, inexpensive way to combine the jamness of MP3 players with the somewhat uncontrolled influx of new stuff. i'd like to add some of the better bits of satellite radio, but without the liveness of it — maybe a subscription service that delivers stuff based on my current collection, but not afraid to step outside and cross lines here and there.
in any case, i'm boycotting iTunes except for free stuff; fuckers pissed me off. have never directly paid them a penny for content.
