death on two legs
here it is. the comedy test. carve out an 8-minute block today and give it a view. you'll probably either hate it or love it. you will not, however, ever view life the same way again. it's that powerful.better have your will in order before viewing. just saying.
[implied spoiler for the video above:]
fun to hear the DVD commentary for that, "The Story of Everest" from Mr. Show with Bob and David. it explains the origin of the sketch, and how the audience was drained by the many breaks to reset the props. when i first saw this the decreasing laughter of the audience didn't affect me, since i was too busy wondering if i was going to live through it. now i notice the audience, but it doesn't keep me from losing it here and there. that starred jay johnston, BTW, who i just saw in an old episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
here's another of my favorite mr. show sketches — this time a sensitive and thoughtful documentary of days gone by:
most people wouldn't recognize her in that, but the counter girl is superfox funny girl mary lynn rajskub, from her innocence period. and the narrator? tom kenny, SpongeBob SquarePants himself.
one more — this only because it has bob odenkirk dancing on a golf course:
in the DVD commentary david cross points out that he's about to lose it when bob starts doing the backward leg kicks. funny watching him try to keep from busting up. of course, bob and dave are in all 3 sketches above. if you're a Curb fan but not familiar with bob, he was Porno Gil in the episode named that. he was also the miller "president of beers" commercial guy a while back using the word of all words — traveshamockery. david cross may be most famous for playing tobias fünke on Arrested Development.
