The Sin of Harold Diddlebock
i wouldn't say this movie was 100% spot on, but some of its scenes are. one of my favorites, and here's why:- harold lloyd starring in a talkie
- the incomparable edgar kennedy as the barman/artiste, working overtime to steal a scene from harold lloyd, with perfect jimmy conlin batting cleanup for the winner (which turns out to be the movie)
- out-of-the-blue poignancy such as this from HL:
... man works all his life in a glass factory, well one day he... feels like picking up a hammer.
- did i mention edgar kennedy?
the artist does not weigh his clay.
- stunning, easily unappreciated acting with a lion by harold lloyd and al bridge.
- vintage piece of ass frances ramsden
once you get around the rough edges, you as well may become addicted to this addled two-version movie (the other, only slightly different edit called Mad Wednesday). get it free at bittorrent.com (requires bittorrent.com installation), or the DVD through usual routes. i haven't seen the DVD, but have long owned the VHS of Mad Wednesday, and it looks good enough for the era. if you don't like old movies even when dubbed poorly though, forget it in all versions.
