at a party last spring i had the good fortune of running into a woman who hipped me to tina fey. had noticed TF on SNL now and then, but hadn’t seen her enough to get around those repellent poser glasses. party woman, no average dullard, told me that tina fey was smart, and that Mean Girls was a good movie. despite her feyish glasses — easier to ignore in conversation — the advice was noted.

so i got Mean Girls, pronouncing it worth multiple views (i like lindsay lohan, but my favorite is lizzy caplan’s bitchin’ lehhhhhhzbian janis ian). then i found 30 Rock and was officially smitten for life, fey’s horrendously ignorant political views notwithstanding.

…The Guardian has seen details of the survey, to be released this week by the Commission for Racial Equality.

It shows that a majority of white people do not share the bonds of close friendship with their fellow black, Asian or Muslim Britons, meaning they may lack the empathy that close contact can bring. The CRE warns this leaves swaths of the population open to believing the worst of different ethnic and religious groups.

the premise of this ridiculous piece is that whites bestow friendship. talk about some racially unequal bullshit. it’s my experience that the most bigoted people around are usually the ones manipulating everyone into positions of guilt over pet characteristics. brings to mind one of many meetings i had at an association where some felt it quite important that the “race and ethnicity” of each member be known. there were many pious arguments over how people would feel being asked to pick one flavor over a mix. as the database administrator responsible for dealing with the many ramifications of the proposed changes, i asked why they were necessary. the serious reply: “well, we don’t want to pigeonhole people.”

unable to take anymore, i blurted out, “if you don’t want to pigeonhole people, then why have we spent all these meetings plotting a strategy to do just that? don’t ask what race and ethnicity they are at all. not pigeonholing doesn’t get any simpler!”

there was no answer other than a sheepish, busted look, followed by, “well, this is what ms. blah blah [queen of egalitarianism as long as the numbers add up to her formula] wants.”

the very people charged with ensuring that we all become race blind were guaranteeing that we never could. it’s a disease that can only be cured by pushing such race baiters off their hallowed pedestals of vapor. they are the problem.

incidentally, when they asked me to become the IT manager there, ms. blah blah found out about it and sent a memo to my prospective boss, saying, “i understand that you’ve asked charley hardman to be the MIS manager. this is just to remind you that the proposal must be reviewed by the affirmative action department before blah blah blah.”

yeah, it would be a real tragedy to have a white male manager without looking through all the stats first. if they hired me, that would have made 2 white male supervisors on the same floor. not good! management on the floor would’ve looked like this:
