[update 071107: looks like things are working now.]

my apology to those who’ve commented recently and your comments don’t publish. i’ve been notified of them via email, and they’re probably sitting at blogger.com ready to see the light. this blog’s published through blogger via FTP, and the process/connection is about 99% worthless for the last day or so. i’m merely hoping this post even gets thrown onto the main page; should be more likely though since i’m leaving labels off (labels severely increase publication density/complexity).

don’t feel like troubleshooting yet; hoping it fixes itself [update 071106: good plan]. off and on i’ll keep trying to republish the whole blog, so that’ll get comments up if the FTP holds.

oh god, what will the public do if this blog lies dormant for long? almost like the official US crime gang without an “attorney general”.

phil woods, one of my favorite sax players, used the word “sisyphus” in an album title when i was in high school. that’s probably the only reason i know what the word means, since i now tend to purposely ignore even slightly rare words as inefficient; sure don’t consider knowing them a virtue. even when curiosity strikes and i look up a strange word, these days i ensure that it’s only in the shortest of short term memory slots. IMO, vocabulary and geography rank among the top overrated data stores. capital of north dakota? far from giving a damn, i actively prevent that and millions of other Count Crappula tidbits from entering my head for more than 30 seconds. so here’s the weirdness: (more…)

though i don’t work on this blog’s graphics anymore, i sometimes change its look temporarily using stylesheet presets made years ago. the current preset sports this banner. i wonder how many people would notice, if they stared at it, that there’s a blurred and faded woman in the banner peeling off her panties to expose paradise alley. lotta things in this life that i see no reason are popular, but MySpace is one of the more perplexing. for years i’ve been trying to figure out what people like about the place, and i’m further away now than before. IMO, it’s one of the ugliest, klunkiest, least usable sites around. it repels me like a boxing glove coming out of the screen. somebody says, “check my MySpace!” okay. i go there and it looks like a litterbox of skrawnky fonts/graphics and shit colors over an incompatible background. a girl on skype last month unlocked her MySpace page so i could see her picture gallery. that was fine and usable enough, but hardly typical of the normal garish trash i see there. have a brief email i’d like to translate. it’s apparently in russian, but looks like this instead of russian. i’m confused, since i can display cyrillic characters fine in my browser. don’t understand what different protocol is being used for the many pages i’ve found that share this strange character set. know almost nothing about unicode, etc.

i turned the email into an html file and loaded it in IE after adding russian as a language. no change. went to a zillion translation sites. some did translate the character set into cyrillic, but it was apparently always gibberish (for a test word which i know from google searches isn’t).

for a while now many MSM hoonds have been moving closer to exclusively one-sentence

paragraphs, but i refuse to let these kloondels ride the wave of the future while i (more…)
